The Art of Meenakari — India's Painted Jewellery

Meenakari is one of India's most breathtaking jewellery traditions. Originating in Persia and perfected in Rajasthan, this art of enamelling metal with vivid colours has been passed down through generations of skilled artisans.

The Process

A master Meenarkar first engraves intricate patterns onto gold, then fills each cavity with powdered glass mixed with metallic oxides. The piece is fired in a kiln at precise temperatures, causing the glass to fuse and create jewel-bright colours.

Jaipur became the heart of Meenakari when Raja Man Singh brought Persian artisans to his court in the 16th century. Today, the Pink City remains home to the finest Meenakari workshops in the world.
